It was a very simple process to get a library card. Services are also expanded to residents of Wylie, Frisco, Richardson, and The Colony. I might forgotten to mention a city. I haven't been to a library in years so seeing a self checkout for books was really exciting to see! You can reserve books and you will be alerted via communication method set up. Vending machines available here, too and transients do seem to be around the library area.
The Harrington Library has an impressive selection of books. I'm glad this building has actual Japanese books, study rooms, and the latest graphic novels. However, this particular library attracts a lot of immature adults. The librarians need to be more mindful of their patrons. Some of their usual guests lack common courtesy. Despite having a peaceful environment, drama occurs in this library more often than not. If someone mocks you for studying, don't be afraid to defend yourself.
Very welcoming facility. Single story, fully accessible. Excellent kids library. This library often has free programs. One of the highlights of Plano Libraries is the 'sensory kits' that can be checked out(free). Great for seniors. Another great feature is"book a librarian" who is amazing wealth of knowledge. One helped me research how to challenge property tax assessment.
I had been okay with this library, it’s got a kids area and a pretty good selection, BUT yesterday when I was there with my three kids (3yrs old and younger and I’m 3 weeks out from having baby 4),my two yr old daughter was running around while I was checking out our books by the kids are entrance. Of course I’m trying to get her to be more quiet and not run, but there’s only so much I can do, so I’m trying to just get this done so we can go. Some homeless guy and his buddy walked up about 6 ft away from my daughter and yelled at her that she needed to be quiet and NO ONE at the front desk (men and women, at least 3 librarians) stepped in to say or do anything to help me. I called the man out, but immediately went to check on my girl and get my other kids and go. While at the car I was changing a diaper before loading my youngest in and ANOTHER homeless guy was walking around the parking lot looking at cars and even came right up to the hood of my van with me right there! Not a safe area, I will not be going back. I can’t believe Plano would put up with this at all. A grown man should never be yelling at a child who is in the kids area even! I understand when librarians tell them to stop running or be quiet, because that’s their job but isn’t keeping the environment safe part of your job too?? How are communities supposed to come together and feel welcome in a place like that?
Love this library for several reasons. Staff is extremely helpful. Beautiful art displays. Clean safe place to enjoy books, computers, activities A+
