We've had to spend approximately $12k in house repairs after we bought our first house last year with Century 21 realtors representing us. At time of viewing with Candy and Randy Hudson, we had mentioned there is a bad odor in the house. We asked them, what is going on, it really doesn't smell good, can we bring this up to the owners and ask them to fix this? Candy and Randy informed us we might offend the owners if we bring up the odor and should instead ask for 'professional cleaning' of the house. Well, my husband and I naively believed our realtors have our best interests in their heart... so we trusted them. Everything went downhill from there. When we moved in, we discovered animal urine damage in ALL rooms of the house. It was in the floors and the walls, it was on the stairs, in the carpet, in the padding... just disgusting. All flooring had to be ripped out, the subfloors needed to be thoroughly cleaned with urine removing agents. This was a loooong and frustrating process- we were on our hands and knees until 2-3 AM each day, scrubbing and scrubbing all rooms (and the walls and the doors) and then washing them and then scrubbing all over again, just hoping and praying it was enough. This took 60+ hours if not even more. Unfortunately in many places this was not enough and we had to keep calling professional help and try cleaning all over again. Ultimately, if it's not obvious already, new floors had to be installed in all rooms because none of the previous flooring was salvageable. This was a 3 month PAINFUL ordeal. We still thought Candy and Randy were on our side and talked with them several times in following months for help in getting some refund or resolution with the sellers or their realtors. Not to mention, we brought up that we had asked for specific items to be handed over at time of move-in from previous owners (like keys to all doors, manuals for appliances, etc... hint: they weren't). To top it off further, upon move-in we discovered the garage door was damaged, the appliances we bought from previous owners were broken, there were issues with the AC, dog poop left from previous owners. I truly believed Candy and Randy sympathized with us and would help us get our money back, at least for the floor damage. I even talked with their manager, Frances Cruz, at Century 21 and eventually, she also stopped taking my calls. Now in hindsight, it seems she and the team hoped that we would just forget about this and let it go. I'm writing our story now because I feel utterly humiliated and traumatized with our first house purchase. Ultimately, I've learned that no one is on your side. If something smells weird, it probably is (pun intended).
