I recently visited CarMax to sell my car, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Two weeks ago, I received an appraisal offer of $28,000. Since I hadn’t purchased my new car yet, that offer expired. When I returned with my old car, CarMax re-appraised it to ensure fairness. I had checked with multiple dealers both online and offline, and none could match CarMax’s offer. In fact, several dealers told me that CarMax hadn’t just given me a good deal—they had given me a great deal. What impressed me most was their integrity. Even though my original offer had expired, CarMax gave me the exact same quote as before, without taking advantage of the situation. Fair truly means fair, and that’s exactly what CarMax delivered. On top of that, I arrived at the store around 8 PM, just an hour before closing. The team completed the entire process in about 45 minutes, handed me a check, and even arranged a Lyft ride home. The efficiency, professionalism, and customer care were outstanding. I can’t say if everyone’s experience will be identical, but I can confidently say mine was excellent. CarMax made the entire journey smooth, transparent, and stress-free. I walked away not only with a fair deal but also with complete satisfaction.
I recently bought a used (pre-owned) car from CarMax in Plano. All-in-all, I’d say it was a very positive experience. Their salesman was very friendly and helpful as were all the associates I came in contact with including the service staff and business office staff. The facilities were clean. I'm very pleased with my purchase. If you don’t like haggling or playing games when you go to buy a car, you should check out CarMax!
The car buying experience was swift and straightforward and I was out of there in less than two hours. I highly recommend purchasing your car through Carmax. PSA: Do not purchase any of their Maxcare plans, I was told all repairs would be handled free or charge at Carmax, but that was a lie, they actually charge you for brake repairs, basically everything except Air Conditioning .
My purchase experience has not been great. My wife and I came in on 12/19 to purchase/trade in my truck for a kia telluride. Obviously with the holidays and all we were not able to drive it as much as we should have, and shame on us assuming we expected to have some grace (because of Christmas I assumed) and return it 2 days past the 10 day (this is apparently strict) deadline (12/31). I spoke to both sales managers and hoped an exception would be made to return the vehicle. After five phone calls, back and forth, and being told “you’ve had the vehicle 20 days” (obviously not true) by Sean. It is apparent customer service from upper management lacks, make sure your mind is made up on the vehicle you are purchasing and expect mediocre customer service from management. My solution is to sell back the car I bought from them and take a hit instead of deal with them for the life of the car note.
Rick at the Plano location served us with efficiency and patience. The process is quick, took us about an hour to drive away with our used vehicle. This is our first time with CarMax and we will be coming back next time.
